Story World - Hertford Town

The Scratch Card is a fast-paced coming-of-age adventure about four 14-year-old girls in Hertford whose ordinary day turns extraordinary when they discover a winning £250,000 scratch card. Suddenly, a prize that could change everything becomes their secret mission - and the town they know like the back of their hand becomes a map of risks, rivalries, and impossible decisions.

A funny, heartfelt, high-energy film about friendship, loyalty, and what happens when growing up arrives all at once.

MUSIC PLAYS.

A montage of stylish shots of Hertford. Its historic architecture, its parks, rivers and Castle.

JILLY (V.O.)

Hertford is a lovely old market
town where three rivers meet the
River Lea. From here the Lea flows
through the neighbouring town of
Ware, onto London and into the
Thames. Hertford has an ancient castle, a
200 year old brewery and many old
unused railway lines.
This was my first summer in
Hertford. My Mum and Dad had moved here to be
closer to the new film studios. My
Mum works as a special effects makeup
artist. My name is Jilly Jessop. I’d met Grace, Betty and Perry at
my new school and this was to be
our first school summer holiday
together. A holiday that none of us
would ever forget.

Jilly’s narration gives The Scratch Card one of its most distinctive features: it makes Hertford part of the storytelling. As she speaks, the film cuts away into transitional scenes that showcase the county town at its best — the river, the streets, the green spaces, and the surrounding areas that make Hertford so cinematic.

These moments aren’t just atmosphere — they actively highlight Hertford on screen, creating a natural way for audiences to see the town, recognise it, and remember it.

This section of the film is flexible and can be tailored. We are keen to incorporate local business names and recognisable locations where appropriate, offering a valuable opportunity for natural, story-led placement.

Hertford is an affluent middle-class market town. With a hazy, summery soft feeling about it.

Story World - Hertford Tow Paths

Rolling green fields and a tow path next to a canal, this is where some of the girls’ adventures take place.
